A Brief Introduction to the Celebrity Forum on Weekends

    In order to meet the spiritual and cultural needs of the readers, and to fulfill the duty to spread the advanced culture and to serve the study-oriented society, Gansu Provincial Library has started the Celebrity Forum on Weekends since April 2006. It mainly gives out live lectures, with video playback as a complementary way. Experts and celebrities are invited to share knowledge and wisdom, which has enriched people’s spare time, and improved their cultural tastes and intelligence.
     Since 2006, the Celebrity Forum on Weekends has been regularly held in the lecture hall every Saturday morning from 9:30 to 11:30, with more than two hundred audience per time, and more than totally two hundred guest speakers. The lectures cover current political issues, social hot spots, laws and regulations, science and technology education, economy, finance, literature and art appreciation, traditional culture, health care and many other fields. Because of its rich content and changing forms, the forum is popular among readers, and has now become the most influential service brand in Gansu Provincial Library. In 2007, it has been awarded "Star Award - Service Award for public library” by the Ministry of Culture. Many citizens in Lanzhou have taken it as a regular arrangement to attend the lectures in the library on Saturdays.

Forum of Chinese Traditional Culture in Gansu Provincial Library

    To implement the spirit of the third plenary session of the 18th CCPC and the Gansu provincial eighth plenary session of the 12th conference, Gansu Provincial Library, under the leadership of Gansu Provincial Party Committee, Gansu provincial government and the Department of Culture in Gansu, with the support of social groups, is committed to improving public cultural service and enriching people's spiritual life. Thus, the library has held Forum of Chinese Traditional Culture since August 2014. It is held on 15th of every month in lecture hall on the second floor, to provide the public a platform for study and communication. Forum of Chinese Traditional Culture is one of a range of social public welfare activities launched by Gansu Provincial Library, such as the Celebrity Forum on Weekends, the sunshine project, calligraphy and painting lectures and family reading service. It aims at culture inheritance and promotion. Gansu Provincial Library has provided an access to traditional culture and a platform for readers to improve themselves with the intelligence of the experts and scholars at home and abroad.
     On August 15, Forum of Chinese Traditional Culture in Gansu Provincial Library has been officially set up as a cultural brand of the library. Liang zhaoyang- the deputy director of cultural department of Gansu, Guo xiangdong- director of Gansu Provincial Library, Li fenlin- deputy director of Gansu Provincial Library, Bai baocang- the Deputy Secretary General of Gansu Laozi culture seminar, Hu jianping- vice President of the Chinese painting and calligraphy institute, Li peijie- manager of Gansu broadcast television news documentary department and many leaders and guests attended the launching ceremony. Xu xinlong- the deputy director of Gansu Provincial Library, host the ceremony.
     Forum of Chinese Traditional Culture in Gansu Provincial Library has been supported by experts and scholars from all sectors of society. Bai baocang, the Deputy Secretary General of Gansu Laozi culture seminar, has given the first lecture named Filial Piety, and nearly 300 audiences attended the lecture.

Brief Introduction to Gansu Painting and Calligraphy Institute

    To support the strategy of building Gansu into a culturally grand province, which is the practice of the spirit of the 18th CCPC and the belief to serve people heart and soul, Gansu Provincial Library decided to set up Gansu Painting and Calligraphy Institute. It has provided a platform for painting lovers to exchange and display their works and to promote cultural transmission.
    Gansu Provincial Library, with its long-lived, profound, solid and open cultural spirit, has nourished local scholars, and served in Gansu economic and social development. Over the years, in line with the management idea of "Readers first and service first, diligence and factualism, innovative and enterprising", the library consistently explore the the way to unearthen potential of the collected literature and to better serve the society. As an important base for social education and cultural propaganda, the library is committed to enriching people’s spiritual life. In recent years, the library not only held various exhibitions of special books, calligraphy and painting works and photographs, but also gave lectures, reports, seminars, essay competition and Knowledge contest. The establishment of Gansu Painting and Calligraphy Institute is another step to serve people heart and soul.
     Gansu Painting and Calligraphy Institute is a nonprofit cultural organization, composed of both social celebrities and common painting lovers. It is engaged in the study of Chinese painting and calligraphy, and the protection and restoration of ancient book. It has provided a platform for the painting lovers for mutual study and skill transmission, as well as a bridge for Chinese tradition and art inheritance.
